For many customers, the first impression of a business happens online. Before they call, visit or buy, they search. A clear, consistent presence helps them trust you and makes it easy for them to get in touch.

1. Be clear about what you offer

Write one or two sentences that explain what you do, who it is for and how people can reach you. Use them everywhere. If you can't say it simply, customers won't remember it.

2. Claim your business profiles

Set up a business profile on the search and map services your customers use, so they can find your location, opening hours and contact details. Keep the information accurate and consistent across every platform.

3. Choose the right social channels

You don't need to be everywhere. Choose one or two platforms where your customers already spend time, and commit to posting there consistently rather than spreading yourself thin.

4. Give people a home base

Social platforms change their rules. A simple website that you control gives customers a reliable place to learn about you, see your work and contact you. It does not need to be complicated to be effective. Make sure it covers:

  • What you do and who you serve
  • Examples of your work or products
  • How to contact you, clearly visible on every page
  • Answers to the questions customers ask most

5. Respond quickly and keep going

An online presence is a conversation. Reply to messages and reviews promptly and politely, and keep your content up to date. Consistency over time builds more trust than a burst of activity followed by silence.
